Welcome to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. I’m excited that you are interested in joining our nursing team! Our 525-bed academic medical center is adjacent to the lovely downtown Norfolk waterfront. We provide Level 1 trauma services, cardiac services, transplant services (heart, kidney, and pancreas), emergency services, inpatient medical care, general and specialized surgical services, medical and surgical oncology services, critical care services, and high risk obstetric and neonatal care.
Our nursing workforce of 1,600 Registered Nurses was awarded the highly coveted Magnet® designation in 2008 and re-designated in 2014. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital was the first hospital in our community to be awarded the Magnet ® designation, a national recognition for excellence specifically in nursing care. I’m also proud to say that 24 percent of our RNs have achieved a specialty certification.
Our nursing leadership team is committed to providing a smooth transition to practice for our new team members. We enroll all of our new graduates into our Nurse Residency Program – a monthly educational and support program provided on site during your first year of practice. The program is led by our nursing experts and includes topics related to leadership, patient outcomes and the professional role.
I hope that you will decide to join our exceptional nursing team! We possess an unwavering commitment to deliver quality, personalized care to every patient that comes through our doors and to work to the highest standard of nursing care and patient safety. We take our mission to improve health every day to heart, and are dedicated to doing so while creating an extraordinary healthcare experience.
