Whether you’re an experienced RN or a new graduate, your success at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital begins with our individualized orientation process.
On the first day of orientation, our staff development educators meet with each new nurse to review their individualized orientation plan. The first two weeks of clinical nurse orientation consist of simulation, basic arrhythmia (EKG), eCare training and online learning. The remaining weeks will vary depending on your experience and specialty. Once on the unit, you’ll be assigned to a preceptor to guide your orientation. A group of experts, who also serve as mentors for nurses on the unit, will oversee your orientation process to determine your readiness to independently manage patient assignments.
Within three months of being hired, new graduate RNs will transition into our one year New Graduate Nurse Residency Program.
